Our successful candidate in 2023 was Melina Panagoulias

She is currently PhD student at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg with a focus on pharmaceutical biology. Her work in Shimadzu´s lab will deal with the question “How do multiple stress conditions influence the defense in the Salicaceae plant family?”

Our successful candidate in 2022 was Ing. Jan Fučík

He is currently a PhD student at Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Chemistry (Brno, Czech Republic) with a focus on chemistry and technology of environmental protection. The group’s area of research is the monitoring of common pharmaceuticals in the environment and developing potential solutions to remove these micropollutants, lower their bioavailability and also to determine accessible residual limits in the environment. The work at Shimazu aims at the identification of metabolites from target substances in lettuce and earthworms by LC-HRMS.

Our successful candidate in 2020 was Dr. Tessema Mekonnen

He works as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Rheinbach, Germany. His main research interests are the development of mobile analytical methods for detection and identification of nitrosamines in (waste)water during ozonation treatment and algal bloom toxin biomarkers in surface water.

Our successful candidate in 2018 was Nora Gibitz Eisath

She works as a PhD student in the Institute of Pharmacy - Pharmacognosy of the University of Innsbruck, (Austria). Her main research interests are the investigation of the potential of supercritical fluid chromatography for natural product analysis, analytical method development and validation for the quality control of medicinal plants, as well as isolation and structure elucidation of secondary plant metabolites.

Lars Appel
He is a research assistant at the Insitut für Textiltechnik (ITA) der RWTH Aachen University looking to analyse the fracture and fatigue behavior of out-of-autoclave thin-ply carbon fiber reinforced plastics, which are increasingly being used in many sectors of the economy such as the automotive industry, aerospace and sports equipment.

Lisa Emhofer
She is a research assistant at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria, focused on studying the interactions of plants with pharmaceuticals.

During her time in the Shimadzu laboratory world she is planning to investigate the metabolism of pharmaceuticals in plants, to identify metabolites and approaches for their analysis at trace levels.

Our successful candidate in 2016 was Debora Pensi

She works as a PhD student of Molecular Medicine in the Department of Medical Sciences of the University of Turin. Her research aim is the development and validation of a UHPLC MS-MS method for therapeutic drug monitoring of some drugs, including monoclonal antibodies, and their application in clinical laboratories.

Her current research activity in Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry is carried out at the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacogenetics of the University of Turin.

Carola Schultz
She is a PhD student at the MEET Battery Research Center (University of Muenster) in the competence areas analytic & recycling and aging & safety. Her research aim is the investigation of organic Lithium-ion battery (LiB) electrolytes with HPLC-UV/VIS and HPLC- MS.

Katarzyna Brama
She is a PhD student at the Warsaw University of Technology. Her work comprises metal complex and bioligand studies in tomato and garden cress extracts performed by means of hyphenated techniques.

She’ll look at the identification of metal complexes with HILIC ESI MS/MS and new determination methods for phytochelatins in natural samples using HPLC with fluorescence detection.
